20.05.2009 SUPERBIKE - THE GENUINE ARTICLE
If you want to be ahead of the pack, then Honda Genuine Accessories can help get you there. Something that was spotted early by two of Honda's supported teams in the World Superbike championship...
The Dutch Ten Kate team has been one of Honda's most successful racing outfits for nearly a decade. Having won the World Supersport championship for the first of seven consecutive years in 2002, the squad first entered the World Superbike championship with Chris Vermeulen in 2004.
In 2007, the team achieved a remarkable double - winning both the World Supersport (Kenan Sofuoglu) and World Superbike (James Toseland) titles. It's an extraordinary story from an extraordinary team.
Ten Kate, you see, is the embodiment of the Superbike spirit - production race machines based on road-going models, prepared by skilled tuners and ridden to the limit - and sometimes beyond - on the world's race circuits by some of the finest riders on the planet.
But Ten Kate are Honda dealers, too; Holland's biggest, in fact, so they understand the race fan and the everyday bike customer, too. As a large, successful motorcycle dealer, Ten Kate knows that Honda Genuine Accessories will not only enhance their customers' bikes and loyalty to the brand, but add a valuable revenue stream to the company's annual turnover.
So when the opportunity arose before the 2009 season to have one of the Ten Kate Honda Racing machines sponsored by Honda Genuine Accessories through Honda Access Europe, the team saw the benefits right away.
Ryuichi Kiyonari - a three-time WSBK race winner in 2008 - is the team rider sporting the colour scheme of the HRC-backed Suzuka 8-hour winning Honda CBR1000RR Fireblade. It's proving to be one of the most popular colour options in dealer showrooms this year, and the race machine is additionally adorned by Honda Genuine Accessories branding.
But perhaps more pertinently, Kiyonari's machine is also adorned by some Honda Genuine Accessories - carbon-fibre rear hugger, front mudguard and crankcase cover set, plus a high windshield for the Japanese ace to crouch behind as he winds his Fireblade up to speeds of 300kph.
On the other side of the Ten Kate Superbike garage sit Carlos Checa and Jonathan Rea, who ride identical specification machines to Kiyonari. This part of the team is heavily supported by TV and monitor manufacturer, Hannspree, who also sponsor the Ten Kate team in World Supersport championship - a title the team has won every year since 2002!
Each and every product in the Honda Genuine Accessories ranges - and it extends way beyond the items featured on the team's race machines - is the result of extensive research, rider consultation, the anticipation of riding trends and meticulous product development.
It's how Honda likes to do things and it's the same level of dedication and professionalism that goes into the efforts of the Ten Kate Honda Racing team in the World Superbike championship.
Those efforts are replicated in the Honda Althea Racing team which, since this season's third round at Valencia in Spain, has also been supported in the World Superbike and Supersport championships by Honda Genuine Accessories.
The Italian team's Supersport rider, Matthieu Lagrive from France, is carrying carbon-fibre hugger, front mudguard and crankcase cover set, as well as the high screen on his Honda CBR600RR. His British team-mate, Tommy Hill - one of Kiyonari's rivals in the Superbike championship - has the carbon-fibre hugger and front mudguard, plus a carbon-fibre exhaust guard.
